Frequent Answered Questions

When does the Whale Shark season begins?
On the last 3 years the first whale sharks have arrived to La Paz bay around mid-end November, so we expect for this 2025 to be the same, although nature can always surprise us...
If you're looking for the best time to come for a whale shark tour, any time from late November to early April is good. But if you want to make sure they're already here please contact us to give you the most up to date information.

What if the weather gets bad?
We will make sure that the conditions are optimal before doing any tour. There are a few days of the year (mostly in winter) when the wind is very strong and the harbor is closed for any boat activities, if that is the case, we will get in touch with you 1-3 days in advance, when the forecast is more accurate. If you have time to reschedule another day, and we also have space on given day, we can reschedule with no problem. Otherwise we will refund you 100%

Can I bring babies on board, and do they pay adult price?
Children ages 2 and up are welcome on board. Because both Harbor Patrol and the Environmental Secretary strictly monitor the Whale Shark area, we must pass through a checkpoint before entering. If there is extra space on the boat, small children may join at no extra charge. However, if the boat is at full capacity, children will need to pay the same rate as an adult passenger, since authorities count every person on board—regardless of age or size—toward the passenger limit. Before booking, we can let you know.

Is there a waiting list to enter the Whale Shark area?
The area where the Whale Sharks are found is protected by the government and us
(the tour operators) to ensure their conservation, so only 14 boats are allowed to enter per turn (or slot). During one day there are 4 turns so 56 boats in total per day are allowed in the whale shark area.
Before entering the area, all whale shark tour operators need to ask for their desired turn in an online system and the government assign the turns.  Most of the times we get the turn we asked, but in high seasons (Thanksgiving, Christmas and Eastern) there’s a lot of demand for these tours in the city so it is a possibility that we don’t get the desired turn and are sent further on the schedule or in a worst case don’t even get a turn in the whale shark area for the day, thus not being able to do the tour.
There’s no possibility to know this in advance since the turns are assigned daily upon request at 7:00am, after that time we will know for sure if we’re getting into the schedule we asked.
In real numbers: we get a turn for the day over 99% of the time (last season only once we did not get a turn). And we get the desired schedule over 97% (last season only 5 tours we got a later turn, i.e., we asked for 9am and got into 1pm).

What about the pictures and videos included on the tours?
Your guide will bring a Go Pro camera and will be taking photos and videos during the tour, these will be sent to you the next day by Google Drive at no extra cost.
It is important to know that the quantity and quality of the content depends entirely on the conditions of each day. Not all tours will have the same photos and videos since the visibility in the water changes from day to day and we cannot foresee how it will be. If the sharks are swimming fast, it will also be difficult to capture them on camera.
It also depends on the wind conditions, since the priority of the guides is to ensure your safety and well-being in the water so you can swim near the whale sharks. Once the guide is confident with this, we can start to take shots in the water.

Cancellation policy?
If you cancel at least 7 days before your tour, you’ll get a full refund. Cancellations made within 6 days of the tour are non-refundable. Our business relies on this short season to make the most out of it for the rest of the year, and since we allow a maximum of 9 guests per boat, every spot is very important.
